We once got along without it.

Years ago we just presented dances or taught without respect to learning theory.  Some of us intuitively responded to the learning needs of the dancers, others of us managed to slog along.  An element of self-selection by the prospective dancers gave us many folks with aptitude for our activity.  Those "lacking" aptitude eliminated themselves while we made do with the survivors.

We can't afford to ignore it.
